Rare Earth Fluoride and Metal

In 2025, Principal Mineral acquired the exclusive rights to an innovative rare earth metal production technology: Rare Earth Metals via Alternative Fluoride Salt (REMAFS). Developed by Critical Mineral Innovation Hub researchers at Ames National Laboratory, REMAFS enables the production of rare earth fluorides without the use or production of harmful Hydrofluoric acid.

The problem

The U.S. needs more rare earth processing capacity to support the build out of a domestic supply chain for these critical inputs. Today, the country relies on China for over 85% of processed rare earths, creating a significant economic and security risk. Scaling processing capacity can help reduce exposure and strengthen supply chains.
